Christian wives, if the command to "be submissive to your own husbands" (1 Pet. 3:1) is an incredible struggle and seems deplorable to you, perhaps your focus is not high enough.

Submission to your husband is an act of submission to the Lord. Because the Lord has asked it of you, the "why" really doesn't matter. Whether your husband is worthy of such submission does not matter, because THE LORD IS WORTHY. By the way, even the best husband is not worthy, as we are all just forgiven sinners. A willingly submissive spirit, especially under difficult situations, is an act of incredible courage and faith. Such a spirit is "very precious in the sight of God" (1 Pet. 3:4b).
