"Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker
who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

"Likewise the chief priests also, mocking with the scribes and elders, said, “He saved others; Himself He cannot save. If He is the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe Him. He trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now if He will have Him; for He said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” (Matt. 27:41-43).

Their challenge: "Let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe Him." This, and challenges just like it, have been the lying anthem of unbelievers for ages.

The problem is that, unlike Gideon, who tested God and followed through (Judges 6), most men who sing such songs do not. Rare today are the men like Thomas, who was just seeking that last bit of incontrovertible evidence (at least to him) to shred that last vestige of doubt keeping him from embracing an unfeigned faith (John 20:26-29). No. Most test God with hearts not seeking to believe, but to confirm their unbelief. Even if God passes (if you will) their most stringent tests, they rationalize away the results and continue, even more determinedly, in unbelief.

If the Lord had come down from that cross that moment, as they challenged, would those men have believed? We will never know. Still, Jesus not only came down from that cross after His death, He rose from the grave three days later - providing an even greater testimony to His claim of being the Son of God! How many today will believe? Will you believe? If you believe, how has that faith impacted your life? Don't sing the unbelievers anthem. Believe.
