If God wanted us to pray our way into a relationship with Christ, you think we would see that language employed in the New Testament examples and commands. Instead, we are told...
“For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” (Gal. 3:26-27)
Baptism, not prayer, brings us “into Christ,” thus implying our relationship with Him. When it comes to beginning our relationship with Christ “through faith,” baptism is the mode by which that is done, not prayer (e.g., a sinner’s prayer or any other prescribed prayer). The New Testament examples universally support this concept.
