"No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13, NKJV)

Where does your mind go when tempted with things God has forbidden? In that crucial moment between should or shouldn’t, do you look for a way into or a way out of sin?

For a disciple, temptation is never a question of can or can’t, but will or won’t. It is critical to remember that, in His faithfulness, God will never let you be tempted beyond your level of can. He will always provide an out.

The difficulty with facing temptation is one of what you value most. If we desire to please Him who died for us, we will always seek the way of escape. If we desire to please ourselves, we will struggle to seek the out, let alone choose it. Will you look for and choose that way of escape with the next temptation you face? What about the one after that? Even after sin, God’s grace willing, we can take the great way of escape from sin—through the blood of Christ (1 John 1:8-9). Will you take the way of escape?

Father, even in the face of my darkest temptations, I thank you for Your faithfulness. You enable me to overcome and conquer in the moment of temptation. Help me to always look for and see the way of escape You graciously provide. Help me to resist the tempter, today and always, trusting You to deliver. Through your Son’s name, I pray.
